ZEHNERJAHRE
Shaped by societal expectations and the struggle of forming an identity, this project explores the experience of growing up as a boy becoming a man. It reflects on vulnerability and control, revealing the tensions and contradictions within inherited ideas of masculinity while navigating between childhood and adulthood.
I want to be a boy again, playing hide and seek in bales of straw.
I want to stand in a trailer full of canola seeds with wind in my hair.
I want to stand on sticky concrete stands gathering confetti on my soles.
I want to be hard, I want to be tough,
I want to disappear in my bomber-jacket,
I want to merge with the crowd around me.
I want to hit, I want to scream, I want to be safe.
I want to be a man at last.

Finding and shaping a masculine identity means cutting through the noise of societal and peer pressure, finding your spot, merging in and out of groups and subcultures to form an awareness of an ever developing identity at last.
