Building with Marine Resources: A New Research Initiative
The Royal Danish Academy is proud to be part of Form Følger Fjord, a collaborative research and innovation project exploring how Danish marine resources can support the development of regenerative bio-based building materials.
Building on research presented at the 2025 Venice Architecture Biennale, the project will advance the material concept through technical testing, design development, and the construction of a full-scale façade demonstrator.
At the Royal Danish Academy, the project will be rooted in CITA - Centre for Information Technology and Architecture at Institute for Architecture and Technology. Together with the project partners, CITA will investigate key aspects of the material's performance, including fire safety, circularity potential, embodied carbon, and pathways for manufacturing and implementation in the built environment.
The ambition is to move the innovation beyond proof of concept and towards a viable building solution that contributes to a more local, regenerative, and resource-conscious construction industry.
Project partners: GXN, The Royal Danish Academy - Centre for Information Technology and Architecture, Decameal, Vilsund Shells, Staticus, DBI – The Danish Institute of Fire and Security Technology, and Technological Institute.
