The design investigates how reinforced structure and optimised use of material add value to the chair. Joints act as defining elements – articulating the character of the chair and expressing the tectonic synergy between form, material and technology. Restrained dynamics shape a strong silhouette, creating a harmonious family of side and lounge chair united by the same structural logic. 

By challenging the structure of a traditional wooden chair, I respond to its weak points and develop a clever joint that connects the elements and strengthens the construction. The details have been refined and tested in a hands-on process through a series of 1:1 prototypes.

Juryen sagde: Niklas is a serious student who lets the possibilities of the material and technology show the way to the form. In his graduation project, he works on exploring the possibilities of the assembly to achieve both constructive strength and at the same time add meaning to the experience of the entire chair. 

Through experiments, research and development, Niklas has used the school's workshops and worked confidently and purposefully to expand our knowledge of the chair's central assembly. The material and workshop-based study of the chair represents a form of basic research, and this project adds new understandings of how the assembly in a chair can be strengthened.
