How do we imagine Denmark in the year 2100? AI Imaginaries explores how generative artificial intelligence can be used to examine our visions of the future.
At the Royal Danish Academy’s exhibition Imagining the Future (2025–2026), visitors were invited to describe how they imagine Denmark in the future. Based on these descriptions, more than 800 AI-generated images were created, together forming a collective imaginary world.
The images are particularly centered on water and climate change: flooded streets, sea dikes, stilted buildings, and seaweed farms are recurring motifs. At the same time, many descriptions point toward the return of nature, with bees, oysters, and wild animals reappearing in the landscape. Together, the material ranges from hopeful visions of increased biodiversity to more dystopian projections of the future.
The exhibition presents a selection of the images created based on visitors’ descriptions of Denmark in the year 2100 through the AI Imaginaries project.
Exhibition opening
Tuesday 24th of June from 14-15. Everyone is welcome.
About AI Imaginaries
AI Imaginaries is a research project at the Royal Danish Academy that explores the interplay between generative AI, the green transition, and participatory urban development. The project is led by Associate Professor Anders Hermund, Associate Professor Gustavo Ribeiro, and Research Assistant Nikola Gjorgjievski.
