Centre for Sustainable Building Culture
The Centre for Sustainable Building Culture at the Royal Danish Academy is founded on a desire to contribute to a sustainable building culture for the future.
Sustainable building culture is understood as the meaningful cultivation and holistic synthesis of technological, cultural-historical and aesthetic considerations – while respecting planetary boundaries.
The objective is to combine the need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and resource consumption with the preservation and enhancement of the cultural and aesthetic values of our built heritage – for the benefit of present and future generations.
The Centre’s overarching aim is to contribute to the development of a sustainable building culture through a coordinated effort encompassing analysis, methodological development and practical guidance, with a particular focus on the relationship between building culture and sustainability.
The intention is to expand the knowledge base, develop new tools and propose models that can inform, enhance and inspire the work undertaken by stakeholders in the construction sector, including architects, owners, craftspeople, manufacturers, organisations, public authorities – and anyone else with an interest in sustainable building culture.
