Lucas Johannes Fellner

I'm a game designer and researcher exploring how we can make interactive, virtual environments more inclusive. In my PhD, Queer Game Architecture, I build game prototypes that use large language models as co-creative partners — making games softer, unpredictable and more adaptive to the player sitting in front of the screen.

Queer Game Architecture: Co-Creating Inclusive Playgrounds with Large Language Models

PhD project

Most games are built around fixed rules, fixed storylines and "right" ways play. That rigidity quietly leaves those people out whose way of playing, or more broadly, way of being, wasn't the one the designer had in mind.

My PhD asks whether large language models might be the technological tool that can change that. Throughout my project, I design and build my own game prototypes in which these models act as co-creative partners, generating dialogue, storylines and environments that adapt in real time to each player.

I'm interested in two things at once: what these adaptive, generative systems make possible through their broad technological affordances, and also how these new forms of interaction actually impact how we experience play.
