This project is a short animated film exploring women’s experiences across time through a narrative inspired by a Chinese female scientist. It uses a hybrid 2D/3D visual language to investigate how storytelling and symbolism can communicate themes of identity, gender, and freedom to younger audiences.
Oversaw and executed all major aspects of the animation production process, including concept development, storyboarding, character and environment design, illustration, animation, and editing. Guided the project from initial idea to final output while maintaining a consistent artistic vision and storytelling approach.
The film unfolds across three interwoven timelines: the past, a mythic dream, and a speculative future. In the past, a female scientist in ancient China studies the moon. During a journey, she arrives at a temple dedicated to a moon goddess, falls asleep, and enters a dream in which she witnesses the goddess ascending to the moon, only to be confined within a lunar palace. In the future, a female astronaut travels to the Moon, discovers the palace, and destroys it, freeing the goddess. The goddess then brings her back to the past, where she encounters the scientist. The story ends as the scientist awakens, leaving the experience suspended between dream and reality.
