This project is a context-based furniture design intervention, which aims to meet the current needs at the Art Gallery, Munkeruphus, namely to contribute to enhance the reception and entrance hall. 

The Poster Shelf is built on the principle of being able to have multiple functions - from a shelf to displaying posters or be used for exhibitions. Frames can be attached to the shelf in different quantities and arrangements.

The intervention takes the form of a single furniture piece, whose form and placement reorient the hierarchy of the space. It allows for a more open and inviting experience, and features multiple unique functions that allow it to support the reception, shop, and exhibition’s changing needs.

Due to the furniture-intervention’s impact on the space, the project is supported by suggestions for spatial reprogramming, regarding flow, function and capacity optimization. These preliminary spatial considerations support the subsequent impacts and effects my intervention have on the space.

Working with the existing building and former owner, the multi-artist Gunnar Aagaard Andersen, the shelf took its form. Following the strict geometry that is both shown in the building and the work of GAaA and with inspiration from English libraries.

Building typologies

The shelf's proportions is alligning with the beams in the ceiling that is slightly offset. The asymmetry within the symetrical is transferred to the frames placed in front maintaining a light expression and adding playfullness.
