A habit‑forming app designed to convert passive scrolling into quiet emotional growth

Context

Indonesian youth spend countless hours scrolling—searching, escaping, connecting—yet often end up feeling empty, unseen, or stuck. Studies show many crave reflection, emotional validation, and small steps toward wellbeing, but they need an approach that gently fits into their habits.

Project
Kapsul Waktu is a habit-forming mobile app that repurposes familiar swipe gestures (left‑skip, right‑complete) into moments of self‑growth. With visual metaphors like star jars, letter reminders, and growth plants, the app supports under‑the‑radar consistency—helping users pause, reflect, and honor small wins.

Method
Guided by Fogg Behavior Model and Atomic Habits, the design process involved qualitative interviews with Indonesian Gen Zers, cultural behavior mapping, and iterative prototyping. Users tested core features—task swiping, future‑letter delivery, and gentle nudges—refining each interaction to feel intuitive, non‑directive, and emotionally safe.

Today’s youth often scroll not to connect—but to escape.
In Indonesia, young people spend hours online, pulled into content loops that offer instant gratification but leave them emotionally drained. Kapsul Waktu explores how to reframe that passive behavior into intentional, quiet growth.

Inspired by behavioral psychology, visual metaphors, and the cultural habits of Indonesian Gen Z, this app guides users to reflect, skip, or complete small daily goals by swiping—mirroring the gestures they already know from social media.

Kapsul Waktu is more than an app—it’s a gentle counter-movement.
A reminder that growth doesn’t have to be loud. That even a skipped task can be a mindful act. That scrolling can be a place of return, not escape.
