Fieldtrip
In a world increasingly shaped by AI, what is the future of creativity?
This master’s thesis explores how we can design human-centred tools that empower creative thinking, rather than replace it, in an AI-driven world.
Fieldtrip is a digital ideation tool that reimagines brainstorming as a guided, playful journey. Instead of humans prompting the AI, Fieldtrip flips the script: the AI prompts the human. Through guided activities, it supports solo ideation by helping users overcome blocks and generate fresh, meaningful ideas.
Why does this matter?
As AI becomes more powerful, we risk turning creativity into a passive act, where users simply prompt and select instead of exploring, connecting, and expressing their own ideas. That is not the future we want.
Fieldtrip shows how AI can be a creative ally. It draws on theories of motivation, play, and human–AI collaboration to bring structure to ideation while preserving reflection, ownership, and imagination.
AI cannot feel or reflect. It does not create meaning, only patterns. But with thoughtful design, it can support the human spark rather than replace it.
The tools we build today shape how we think tomorrow.
