Kvilekval

This project is set in Western Norway, at a farm called Kvilekval. Due to centralization and modern agricultural practices, small-scale farms like Kvilekval have become unused and abandoned. According to a 2022 IPCC report, the highest mitigation potential in the developed world lies within the retrofit of existing buildings.

My intention behind this project is to explore how these farms can be revitalized and future-proofed through adaptive reuse, and the use of locally sourced materials. It seeks to find a balance between preserving building heritage and cultural values while embracing modernization measures such as retrofitting. By sourcing local materials from around the farm, such as timber and stone, and using them in their preferred way, the project hopes to extend the lifespan of existing buildings and any new additions to the farm.
