The Apocalypse Tapestry

The Apocalypse Tapestry portrays the current biodiversity crisis. Showing the life and death of 8 endangered butterflies from the IUCN Red List of threatened species the the tapestry examines the notion of apocalypse in our time, and tells the story of a violent and brutal crisis already happening.
The project examines the format of tapestry weaving by translating the traditional craft into the modern digital loom. Working with weaving techniques from industrial weaving the tapestry is woven on a digitally programmed loom.
The Apocalypse Tapestry challenges the historical use of tapestries as a weapon of power and questions which stories to be told.
