‘Homes’ is a project that aims to create interior architecture for homes of the future for single parents. It unveils a new typology of living wherein the spatial layout is affected by the building, the belongings and the use. This priority of personal belongings and lifestyle informs the spatial configuration and responds to the restrictions some face in standardized, dense-living typologies.
An anthropological focus on modern social conditions, shows the home as a common vessel for single parents and their individual lifestyle. With four tenant representative families, ‘Homes’ unpacks the idiosyncrasies of the single-parent and implements these as an ideology for under- standing the division of space of a rotating family schedule.
DESIGN ENTNOGRAPHY
With each dwelling a chosen element is derived from the personal narrative of each single parent. These motives, inform the placement of walls, and playfully suggest the configuration of each persons use and belongings. Each design will show the relation and interplay between the spatial element, open space and layout of rooms.
