Living Rooms

This thesis project is an investigation into the history of the Swedish living room and suggests how such historically conscious research can be used as a design strategy in the design of housing in Borrby. The project is divided into a written report analyzing and documenting case studies, and a design proposal, where the findings from the research influences the design of semi-detatched houses, taking the living room as a point of departure and interest. The thesis is thus an attempt to rehabilitate the living room in the context of contemporary domestic archtiecture, where the qualities of the living room is often forgotten and treated in sadly generic ways.
