About the Chair Collection

The Royal Danish Academy’s furniture collection is rooted in a centuries-long tradition of furniture drawing, craftsmanship and teaching, dating back to the Academy’s founding in 1754. The collection traces the development from early bourgeois furniture ideals to modern Danish furniture design, shaped in particular by Kaare Klint’s teaching and later figures such as Wegner and Mogensen. The collection is pedagogical in nature, comprises approximately 450 pieces, and focuses on typology, material and construction as key themes.
