Project
Klara Margareta Elmdahl, Magnus Nilsson, David A. Garcia

The featured projects exemplify a teaching methodology focused on the value of artistic positioning and formalisation while engaging in experimentation, innovation and building design.

The master’s degree programme Architecture and Extreme Environments strives to find architectural solutions to pressing world challenges by constructing prototypes tested in challenged regions around the world. Artistic positioning and practices are crucial aspects of these constructions.

They help humanise the experimental process while engaging communities and experts at the same time. The works also manifest the distinct aesthetic. sensibilities of the students and how their works can engage in dialogue with local cultures and sites. This method is manifested in formal explorations that transcend pure function and connect to local stakeholders via artistic forms, communicating a more considerate approach to architectural solutions. The works are examples of graduates and teaching staff from the master’s degree programme.
