At the Royal Danish Academy - Institute of Architecture and Technology, we explore how architecture can contribute to the global agenda for sustainable development. Through research, publications, and international collaborations, we work to strengthen the role of the built environment in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
The built environment plays a decisive role in addressing global challenges such as climate change, resource depletion, and social inequality. Across the world, architecture and planning shape the conditions for how we live, interact and sustain our societies. As the environmental and social impacts of the building sector become increasingly evident, there is a growing need to rethink how we design, construct and transform our surroundings.

‘10 Principles to build on’
At the close of the four-day UIA World Congress of Architects 2023, President Natalie Mossin presented “The Copenhagen Lessons” 10 principles for transforming the built environment to meet the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

‘An Architecture Guide’ (Vols. 1 & 2) illustrates how global architecture supports the 17 SDGs. Co-developed by the Danish Association of Architects and the UIA, this global resource has inspired local editions worldwide.
