The Rebuilding Project

The Royal Danish Academy – Institute of Architecture and Technology is engaged in an ongoing series of international collaborations under the overarching theme of sustainable rebuilding. The collaborations unfold in different projects and formats.

The world around us is in need of rebuilding. All over the world, we see communities unable to sustain their lives and livelihoods in the surroundings they inhabit. Both the built and natural environment are threatened and devastated by disasters of various natures – social and political conflicts, natural disasters and the ongoing irreversible consequences caused by post-industrialization climate change and the biodiversity crisis.

To rebuild for a sustainable future, we must understand the place, the culture and the community that needs rebuilding.

At the Royal Danish Academy - Institute of Architecture and Technology we’re interested in exploring the field of sustainable rebuilding by building new relations and partnerships with local practitioners committed to rebuilding in their own local context. 

By doing that, we hope to gain knowledge on methodologies, local practices, collaborative efforts and anchoring of sustainable rebuilding as a diverse and multifaceted discipline.
