Nordic Flax Futures (NFF)
The Nordic Flax Futures Project (NFF) explores what is needed to re-establish flax and linen production in the Nordic countries, moving from today’s small-scale initiatives towards a more connected and larger-scale industry.
The project maps the current state of flax and linen production and investigates the resources, infrastructures, skills and knowledge required to support its development. It brings together farmers, educators, artisans, designers and commercial actors to strengthen connections across the value chain and facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experience between Nordic regions.
By drawing on local practices and expertise, NFF aims to lay the foundations for a sustainable and resilient flax and linen industry that builds on the Nordic region’s cultural heritage while responding to contemporary environmental and societal challenges.
The project shares its findings and recommendations through reports, digital platforms and events, supporting dialogue and collaboration among stakeholders and contributing to the future development of Nordic flax and linen production.
Nordic Flax Futures is a Nordplus Horizontal project running from 2025 to 2027, with partners across Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark. Led by Muuvgo Oy, the project brings together The Royal Danish Academy, NordGen, Kalø Organic Agricultural College, the University of Copenhagen, Fibershed Norway, Fibershed Denmark, Fibershed Finland, the University of Borås, Region Västra Götaland and Norges linforening.
