MYCO develops biogenic architectural building materials - specifically mycelium-based composite materials - to create new products and architectures that help cities.

Cities worldwide are growing, and the construction industry needs local materials with high reusability and low embodied carbon usage to reduce its climate footprint.

We, Uffe Thomsen and Laurits Genz, aim to develop MYCO into a practice focused on biogenic building materials, specifically mycelium-based composites. Friends since 2017, we founded MYCO in spring 2024 after Uffe's project in Jaipur demonstrated that mycelium materials could be grown without electricity.

Our goal is to explore new possibilities with mycelium materials, starting with a pavilion at Roskilde Festival. We plan to collaborate with Naturpladen on small projects and design products, and develop modular mycelium bricks for temporary shelters for climate refugees in Pakistan.

Additionally, we aim to set up a mycelium-composite production facility in Jaipur. Mycelium and other biogenic materials have great potential but require further research. We hope to contribute to a sustainable future in architecture.
