Material Libraries

Material Libraries is based on the idea that we can create more inclusive, circular solutions by revisiting, rethinking and adapting traditional, material-based solutions.

The project uses physical experiments, models and drawings – large-scale and small-scale alike – to question the role of materials in transformative and adaptive processes, at a material level and in the construction industry as a whole.

The continued worsening of the climate crisis in a world of limited resources and spaces undermines our ability to meet everyone’s basic needs. More inclusive, innovative solutions to specific problems, which take account of local resources and circularity – such as by using and reusing light biogenic materials or residual products such as concrete and plastic – can help us find the way forward.
