Foundational Practices

Foundational Practices is simultaneously a tangible and a lyrical study of the foundation concept. 

The project encompasses both meanings of the word: a supportive base for a building and the point of departure for being human in the world today.

The world is in the midst of a sustainability crisis – on the brink of a paradigm shift that calls for transformation rather than more new buildings. This requires us to be keenly focused on how we can establish new foundations and new worlds in an already built reality.

Whereas modernism was characterised by its technical approach to the world, this project speculates about how architecture can contribute to re-conjuring the world of the future instead.

Drawings and models are made of surplus paper and plastic packaging, recycled paper, sandpaper, Scotch tape, metal clamps and sage gathered in Delphi, as well as recycled and surplus building materials from Norrecco and other recycling stations.
