Fish-anxious

The ‘fish-anxious’ project is a dystopian depiction of a future (set in the year 2125) when the very last fish in the seven seas has been caught a very long time ago.

As early as 2025, vast numbers of fish had died from oxygen depletion, and a new concept emerged: fish-anxious. It describes the existential crisis that arises when people realise that what has happened to fish could someday happen to them as well.

The fish-anxious project uses projections and AI-generated images to illustrate this anxiety. The mutated fish sculptures prompt the viewer to reflect on humankind’s own responsibility for the environmental collapse confronting the Earth. The project also uses unpleasant, troublesome visualisations to depict how the loss of biodiversity also reflects the inherent frailty of humankind. This makes fish-anxious an urgent call to consider what the future will look like.
