About the institute

The Institute of Architecture and Space offers a bachelor programme and two master programmes.

At the Institute of Architecture and Space, we explore the intersection of architecture and design, focusing on the relationship between people and their social and built environments.

We approach design and architecture as integrated disciplines, with people in their physical and social contexts at the core. We work closely with the details of architecture and design solutions - engaging with materials, prototypes, light, and tactility.

With an emphasis on the relationship between architectural details and the overall whole, we explore fundamental material studies, building elements, housing, and habitats. Our mission is to improve people's physical surroundings and enhance quality of life, regardless of individual circumstances. Through fieldwork and studies of people and their environments, we develop solutions to both local and global challenges.

In both teaching and research, we maintain a close dialogue with businesses and organizations. We educate architects and designers who prioritize human needs and are committed to solving the complex challenges facing societies around the world.

Research and artistic development

Research and artistic development at the institute addresses societal challenges both nationally and internationally and is conducted in strong partnerships with other research institutions, public and private companies, as well as the industry and professional sector.

Currently, the institute’s research projects focus on sustainability, spatial inclusion, and architectural history. Additionally, research is conducted in areas such as light, materials and tectonics, interior architecture, extreme environments, representation, AI, and virtual reality.

The institute’s research centres and clusters are closely integrated with teaching in its bachelor's and master's programmes.
