About the Institute of Conservation

At the Royal Danish Academy - Institute of Conservation, we take the view that cultural and natural heritage represent unique and irreplaceable assets, not only for individual nations, but for all of humanity.

Assets that we must preserve. Ultimately, conservation is about sustainability, and at the Department of Conservation we create solutions to the challenges identified by the UN's Global Goals through education and research.

At the institute, we train conservators who help to preserve cultural and natural heritage and to bind people together around the common history that is crucial to our identity.

Conservation education is about much more than preserving individual objects for as long as possible in museums and in society. Our students gain in-depth professional knowledge of materials, their composition and breakdown, and how we extend their lifespan. This can be used in many contexts, where we have an ambition to even better prevent physical environments and objects from decaying.

As part of an artistic and business-oriented academy, we deliver research at a high international level in close contact with the industry and the professions we train for.
