Expenses for architecture students

Students at the Royal Danish Academy should expect expenses for materials, literature, study trips and software. Please note that the following budgets are estimates that may vary.

Computer and software

We recommend that you use a window-based computer, but if you already have a Mac, you can start with that and assess over time weather you need another computer. You may also ask your IT instructors for their recommendations. If you need to bay a new computer, a budget of DKK 10,000- 12,000 should be sufficient. Many stores offer student discounts on computers, wihich you can take use of once you have received your student card.  

Your computer must be able to run programmes such as Rhinoceros, Enscape, the Adobe suite and Autodesk Revit. This requires a newer, powerful processor (i7, i9 or equivalent) and a large amount of RAM (preferably 32 GB and at least 16 GB), or the option to upgrade later. In addition, a graphics card is recommended, e.g. RTX, with dedicated VRAM, as well as an SSD with at least 512 GB of storage. 

The Academy provides software such as the Office suite, AutoCAD, and Revit. You can obtain discounted student licenses for the Adobe suite and Rhino. Ypo should also expect expenses for rendering software such as Enscape, possible AI services, etc.

The Academy also has a number of computers with specialised software available to use on campus.

Study trips and field trips

As a bachelor´s and master´s student, you will participate in one or more study trips and field trips, which can be both domestic and abroad. You should budget DKK 10,000 - 20,000 for these trips for the entire duration of your bachelor´s or master´s degree, but please note that the cost varies depending on the destination.

Materials, Literature, Printing, and Equipment

Expenses for materials, literature, etc. will vary, depending in part of the materials you choose to use in your projects. During your bachelor´s programme, expenses will typically range from DKK 8,000- 12,000 in total, and during your master´s programme from DKK 10,000 - 20,000 in total.
