How can clothing and textiles become part of the ecosystem?
The Earthbound project uses only biodegradable materials to show the vast potential for exploration, play and experimentation within the biological ecosystem. The project includes composting all the fabric scraps – and the process itself has shed light on how the materials are connected to the world we live in.

Sofie Piil Grau has incorporated prickles – nature’s own defence mechanism – into Earthbound. She has also been inspired by extravagant, experimental clothing, such as stage costumes and clothing worn by shamans, and by the shamans’ expressive, performative way of using natural materials to create items of clothing. From a shamanistic view of nature, it is possible to transfer the power of nature to body and mind by dressing in the selected object or symbol of the object.
