Urbanism within boundaries – spatial practices beyond extraction
How can we reuse the existing built environment to a greater extent instead of constructing new?
The project explores alternative urban planning and large-scale architectural practices within the planetary boundaries. It focuses on how to reuse the existing built environment to a greater extent and on a larger scale to reduce the environmental impact related to new construction.
During spring 2023, students in the Urbanism and Societal Change programme tested the project’s hypotheses in the suburban landscape of Copenhagen. The exhibition depicts the students’ work in the context of the research project and its relation to practice.
The installation is aligned with an ongoing industrial PhD project being carried out between the Royal Danish Academy – Institute of Architecture, Urbanism and Landscape, Aalborg University (BUILD), ETH Zurich and Cobe.
