Quick Guides. Design for the 21st. Century
is the title of a new international book series that presents current developments in Danish craft, product design and design knowledge.

Strandberg Publishing and Thames & Hudson are the publishers of the series in collaboration with the Royal Danish Academy and the University of Southern Denmark (SDU). Professor Ida Engholm (the Royal Danish Academy) and Professor Mads Nygaard Folkmann (SDU) are editors of the series.

The first book in the series is:
Quick Guide to Design Thinking by Ida Engholm.

About the book:

Design thinking is an increasingly widespread approach. In recent years it has been launched as a method that enables even the most conservative company ti adopt agile innovative and entrepreneurial mindsets and to think outside the box. But what is design thinking, how did it emerge and what does it do?

This book outlines the research behind design thinking and provides an overview of the many different professions, theories and methods that have contributed to developing and defining design thinking as a research and practice field. Further, it offers an introduction to current debates about design thinking and concludes in a call for design activism as a path to a sustainable future.

Design for the New World. Form Human Design to Planet Design
is the title of an upcoming book by Ida Engholm.

The book will be published in November 2022 by Intellect Press.

About the book.

Design for the New World. Form Human Design to Planet Design aims to introduce a new paradigm in design and design thinking, by shifting our approach from a human-centred perspective that is

primarily focused on human scales, needs, and desires, to a planet-centred perspective, in which design is

always guided by the ambition to create a balanced coexistence between humans and the other species that make up the global ecosystem. To achieve this aim, Design for the New World connects

traditional design thinking with ongoing debates about the Anthropocene and innovative perspectives from

systems thinking, systemic leadership, and indigenous practices. The book intervenes in current discussions

within design research about what role design can play in the sustainable transition, by offering new methods and mindsets to handle the giant-scale complexity of the climate and environmental crisis, as well as concrete tools to turn these theoretical reflections into a transformative practice.

More information will follow soon.
