Applicants that already hold a Master's
Limitation on multiple degrees
Pursuant Danish higher education legislation, applicants that have already completed one Master’s degree equivalent of a Danish 2-year Master's (EQF 7) can be admitted to a second Master's only in the event of vacant places.
The Royal Danish Academy has for many years not had vacant places in architecture and design. You can therefore expect to receive a rejection on your application if you already have a Master's degree equivalent of a Danish 2-year Master's.
Specifically regarding integrated masters from Greek universities
The integrated Master is considered equal to a Danish Master.
In the diploma supplement that should accompany your degree certificate and is developed by relevant Greek Ministries and higher education authorities, there will be a reference to the level of your degree, cf. the European Qualifications Framework, which is level 7 and thereby the same as a Danish Master.
Also there will be a reference to the Professional Qualifications Directive which ensures that your degree is recognized throughout the EU allowing you to practice as an architect. This in fact also allows you to work as an architect in Denmark. This is the case although you may have the opportunity to embark on further architectural specialisation in Greece. The integrated master is sometimes also labelled as an undergraduate degree. This stems from the fact that you do not have the option of graduating with a bachelor after 3 or 4 years.
In practise this means that you have already completed a Master’s degree and can be admitted to a second Master's only in the event of vacant places.
Apply for a dispensation
You can apply for a dispensation for the rule regarding multiple degrees if there are unusual circumstances and health issues prevent you from using your degree on the labour market.
Unusual circumstances can be if you can not use your master's degree in the labor market due to functional impairment. For example if you are a trained veterinarian and have developed an allergy to fur animals, or you are a surgeon and have lost the physical ability to work as a surgeon.
Desire for a career change and new interests is not considered an unusual circumstance. Neither does unemployment within selected industries.
You must document that your work opportunities have been exhausted. Documentation can be medical reports or statements from e.g. a hospital , doctor or psychologist.
The application and documentation has to be uploaded in your application before the application deadline. We will process applications after the application deadline.
Applications that are not documented will not be processed.
