Apply as a Visiting Student

We welcome applications from bachelor and master students looking to experience studying at the Royal Danish Academy. Students can apply to study with us for one semester on one of our architecture or design programmes.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor or master degree in architecture or design.
  • Attending a school/university without an exchange agreement with us.
  • Bachelor students must have completed at least one year of studies by the start date.

Important Note: Due to limited capacity, only tuition-fee-paying students can apply. We cannot accept applications from students with EU/EEA or Swiss citizenship, or those with Danish residence permits that entitle them to free education in Denmark.

Study Programmes
Applicants can choose to apply for one of the following study programmes in architecture and design:

Architecture Programmes

BA Programme

While our bachelor programme is taught in Danish, teaching will be provided in English for visiting students.

MA Programmes in English

Application Deadlines

  • 1 April for the autumn semester 
  • 1 October for the spring semester

Applications must be received by the deadline. Late applications will not be considered. 

Semester dates

Autumn semester runs from 1 September until 31 January
Spring semester runs from 1 February until 30 June

Visiting students are expected to be present at the campus until their last exam has taken place.

Limited Places
Please note that due to the limited number of study places, we cannot guarantee a spot for all applicants. We strongly advise students to explore alternative options in case we are unable to offer them a place.

Requirements

Language Proficiency Requirements
Applicants to our English programmes are not required to submit TOEFL/IELTS scores; however, they are expected to demonstrate a high level of proficiency in English.

While non-Danish-speaking students may enroll in Danish programmes, it is important to note that the primary language of instruction is Danish. Nevertheless, guidance and support are available in English.

Accessibility for students with special needs

With regard to accessibility for students with special needs (e.g. wheelchair access), please note that due to the protected status of many of our buildings that special access is limited.

How to Apply
Prior to submitting your application, you are required to send an email to exchange@kglakademi.dk indicating the program for which you wish to apply. This email must include an approval letter from your home university as an attachment. The approval letter should confirm your current enrollment in architectural or design studies at your home institution and state that the credits earned during your stay at the Royal Danish Academy will be transferred to your home university.

Upon receipt of your university's approval, you will receive a link to the application form containing all necessary information to commence your application. After you have submitted the applcation form, you will receive an automated message with instructuions to guide you through the process

We endeavor to provide students with an official response regarding their study place within six weeks following the application deadline. To facilitate visa processing, proof of tuition fee payment must be submitted within 10 days of receiving the study place offer.
