Apply for Exchange
We have an extensive student exchange network with more than 60 partner institutions all over the world. Every semester we welcome approximatley 30 exchange students. Exchange studies are only open to students from our partner schools.
Architecture
If your school has an exchange agreement with our School of Architecture, then you can apply to study on our programmes in architecture. Please note that applicants to our bachelor or master programme must be studying at the same level as the programme they are applying for.

Design
If your school has an exchange agreement with our School of Design, then you can apply to study on our bachelor and master programmes in design. Students applying for exchange must have completed at least one year of study by the time the exchange period starts.

Deadlines
- Nomination deadlines: 29 March for autumn semester / 29 September for spring semester
- Application deadlines: 1 April for autumn semester / 1 October for spring semester
To partner institutions: How to Nominate
The nomination should be done by the institutional or departmental coordinator of the home Institution or by an assistant at the International Office or faculty. Only nominations within the deadline are accepted.
Each partner institution has received a login and password to the Academy`s online nomination system. If you have lost the login and password, please contact us at exchange@kglakademi.dk.

To students: How to Apply
After you have been nominated by your home institution for an exchange at the Royal Danish Academy you will receive an automated email from the Academy`s application system. Please note that we do not accept applications that are sent to us by e-mail.

Semester Dates
Autumn semester runs from 1 September until 31 january
Spring semester runs from 1 February until 30 June.
It is important that you are present at the campus until the end of semester and participate in all exams to obtain all your credits and grades.
Limited Places
Due to a limited number of study places, please be aware that students applying for exchange are not guaranteed a place.
We often have more applications that the study places that we can offer to the exchange students. It is therefore important that the student shows interest and has a background in the specific study area and we strongly recommend that students target their portfolios and motivation letters to the study programme they are applying for.
Please note that partner schools can nominate the student for only one semester´s exchange at the Royal Danish Academy.
It is not possible to apply for extension of exchange period.
Applications to department of Crafts: Glass and Ceramics
It is only possible to apply for exchange in autumn semester to our department for Crafts.
Workshops
Exchange students will have access to workshops, laboratories and collections that are affiliated with the study programme they are admitted to.
In several of the workshops and laboratories, however, students are required to undergo an introductory course to ensure that the technique, craftsmanship and security are in order.
It is mandatory to wear safety shoes in almost all workshops.
Language Requirements
Applicants for our English programmes are not required to submit a TOEFL/IELTS test, however they are expected to have a high level of proficiency in English.
It is possible for non-Danish-speaking students to study Danish programmes; guidance can be given in English, however please be aware that the teaching is in Danish.
Accessibility for students with special needs
With regard to accessibility for students with special needs (e.g. wheelchair access), please note that due to the protected status of many of our buildings that special access is limited.
