International lecture series centres on the architectural analysis

This spring, the Royal Danish Academy will once again host a series of lectures with international architects. The theme is ‘The Art of Analysis’ and the focal point of the four lectures in the series is the interaction of architectural analysis with the architectural work.

Architecture is a discipline which is traditionally strongly linked to the analysis - of the past, of the place and of the individual work. This year's international lecture series, organized by the Institute of Architecture and Culture, revolves around the analysis as a theme, and continues where last year's international lecture series with the same theme left off.

What role does analysis play in creating architecture? What is the relationship between the constructed work and its interpretation? And what potentials, pitfalls and conflicts can the architectural analysis bring? These are some of the questions that this spring's four lecturers will be examining.

”This year’s lecturers work predominantly in contexts that in some areas are reminiscent of our own. This applies to climatic conditions, the building's regulatory measures and to a certain extent a similar architectural tradition, says assistant professor Morten Birk Jørgensen, who is one of the organizers behind the lecture series. "Thus, the analytical aspects become particularly relevant to a domestic architectural practice."

A digital format offers new opportunities
Due to the current Corona restrictions the lecture series will take place online, and the organizers have used the opportunity to rethink the format: It is the intention that the lecturer, the audience and a professional panel together will create a space for exchange, curiosity and common reflections on the current topic:

“In light of the COVID restrictions, the lecture series has been converted to a digital format. It changes the conditions for the joint conversation and we have therefore invited professional panels to keep the dialogue going, ”says teaching associate professor Ida Flaurup Barnett, who is co-organizer. "In addition, the audience can ask questions to the lecturer through the live chat."
