How can we rethink the layers of modern wall construction?

By developing a full-scale mock-up using only recycled materials and fast-growing biomaterials, ReWall challenges the Danish construction industry’s typical exterior wall structure that currently comprises energy-intensive and resource-intensive concrete, mineral wool and brick.

The project investigates novel methods for waste management, selective demolition and scalable production processes that implement waste materials into new buildings. This demonstrates the potential of alternatives to reduce the climate impact, consumption of resources and generation of waste.

The building segment demonstrates the feasibility of integrating typical waste streams – brick, wood, insulation, and concrete – as well as biomaterials with short regeneration cycles, such as hemp, into existing exterior-wall construction methods, recognising the predominant architectural styles of today.
