Suzi Pain is a PhD fellow at the Royal Danish Academy, where her research relates to the field of Interior Tectonics. The current phase of her project ’The Developed Surface' investigates how a series of digitally designed and 3D printed ceramic columns can be integrated into a historic building in a way that successfully negotiates different architectural languages.

This is part of a wider research project that addresses the potential of new forms of tectonic expression through digital tools and how architects can work with them in a way that is sensitive to historic architectural contexts. Alongside practical explorations, she examines the critical background to be able to challenge and critique the methods and means of producing novel architectural form and the aesthetic implications and qualities of the work in situ.

About Suzi Pain
Suzi Pain researches the possibilities and consequences of new forms of tectonic expression made possible by employing digital tools and processes. She uses research through design to explore generative design methods and uses 3D printed clay as a way to embody architectural form and tectonic expression. Alongside practical explorations, she examines the critical background to be able to challenge and critique the methods and means of producing novel architectural form but also the aesthetic implications and qualities. Suzi Pain works at the scale of the interior and is interested in architectural elements within this context.
