After 500 years of naval occupation, the historical Nyholm enters a new future when the navy is set to vacate in a few years. 

The project investigates how to secure the existing building culture, historical values and characteristic atmospheres when the use is transformed entirely. 

Additions learn from the surrounding building culture that evolved across the ages, yet with a contemporary impression.

"Projektet viser at det er muligt at lave en robust og bæredygtig udviklingsplan for området der tillader en ganske stor udnyttelsesgrad - uden at gå på kompromis med de helt særlige arkitektoniske og kulturhistoriske bevaringsværdier i området. Og det viser med poesi og charme hvordan erfaringer med at bygge og opleve rum, materialer og detaljer kan berige det nye vi bygger i fortsættelse af det gamle - til glæde for nutidige og fremtidige generationer."
