Experiment, Material and Technology
'Experiment, Material and Technology' is the first teaching module of the crafts and design programme.
Our aim is to empower students with a basic understanding of artistic method – including the key role of experimentation in the creative process. The purpose of the experiments is not to find a specific solution to a problem, but to provide a space of artistic possibility for students to explore, openly and inquisitively. And to enable students to identify an artistic and aesthetic area of interest which they can develop through systematic research.
All of the experiments are based on a specific theme and are not just theoretical exercises. Through repeated studies, representative examples are developed to illustrate the importance of material, shape, texture and scale for a given expression. This practical approach gives students the opportunity to incorporate artistic methods and practise systematic registration and dissemination of their work.
