New Materialist Exhibition Making

In this research project museum exhibition making is looked at from the perspective of new materialism.

Museum architecture, display design, exhibition objects, and museum visitors are all considered part of material assemblages in which they affect and change each other. The project investigates, for instance, how the particular materiality of exhibition design affects our experience of museum objects on display, and how museum architecture, when worked with as a material substance, can function as a productive driver in the development of museum exhibition design. 

About Ane Pilegaard
In her research, Anne Pilegaard focuses on spatial and material aspects of museum interiors and display design. Anne Pilegaard is interested in the ambiguous and shifting spatial aesthetics of museum interiors: how they allow for intimate object encounters, while also being public spaces for social engagement, and how they combine permanent and temporary structures. For instance, when old historical museums are renovated or transformed, and when permanent museum architecture meets temporary exhibition design.
