Mass development changed Chengdu (metropolis in southwest China) into a “generic city", leading to social and cultural fabric collapse. Street Culture, as its mass culture, will be re-established as the new urban identity. A vacant underground retail space is retrofit into an experimental site, with translation from traditional public space typologies and recreation with existing elements.
