The project proposes a method to consider social capital as a bearing parameter for urban development by mobilizing civil society actors in the creation of hybrid public spaces. Through the transformation of an asphalt plant into such a space, this prototype acts as a cornerstone in the sustainable development of Mileparken in Herlev.

Mapping of the social bonding and bridging spaces of Herlev.
The different civil society actors, can inhabit the structure by putting up platforms with varying degrees of conditioning underneath the wide spans of the heavy asphalt plant structures. This allows for constant change and flexibility according to the needs of the civil society. Some common functions allow for graduated uses of the space.

I juryens motivering stod: "Taking the challenges of the periphery of Copenhagen as an exemplar, the project imagines an alternative way to develop suburban areas that puts social capital at the core. The transformation of an asphalt plant into civic space explores how existing industrial infrastructures might be opportunistically converted rather than demolished. Drawing on existing civic networks, the transformation creates a public space and catalyst for new relationships to develop. Through evocative imagery and deft spatial crafting, this prototype imagines a captivating alternative future for suburbia."
