The project studies the potential of a new fire station on Amager. An institution significant in its architecture, because of the lifesaving service, central location and unique spatiality. They stand as monuments serving the people.

The house interprets this typology to become a figure watching over the city. Part efficient machine for rapid emergency, but also a home for the brave firemen and their community.

“The city’s identity was once given by its monuments.

The church, the town hall, the market and the theatre were like figures that stood above the quotidian houses and workshops.

They were significant, because of their ceremonial use, the elevated ambition of the architecture and the prominence of their location.

These were the stable anchors, around which the dynamism of the everyday city played out.”

Adam Caruso, The Urban Figure, 2011
