Inside Snøhetta: Research and VR glasses reveal architecture before it’s even built

New research provides 3D architectural experiences with the use of Virtual Reality glasses. During the summer at the Danish Architecture Centre, you can experience a highly successful exhibition about Snøhetta, the Norwegian architecture firm. But you can also get a very special Virtual Reality experience, developed by a researcher at KADK, which enables visitors to explore Snøhetta’s latest architectural project, the King Abdulaziz Centre for World Culture, before it is realised and built.

The Danish newspaper, Politiken gave the exhibition, Snøhetta – World Architecture a full six hearts. A close encounter with Norway’s international architecture firm, Snøhetta is no ordinary exhibition experience. You can experience part of the exhibition in a Virtual Reality model designed at KADK. With a grant from the Danish Arts Foundation, the researcher Anette Kreutzberg from the Institute of Architecture and Design, has developed a 3D Virtual Reality model of the King Abdulaziz Centre for World Culture in Saudi Arabia, a major Snøhetta project, which is in the planning stage.

“It is brilliant that the Arts Foundation has supported the project. This virtual, spatial 1:1 experience of a project that is not yet built is a fantastic new way of seeing things. It is a paradigm shift in terms of working on representational models in the future. For architects, contractors and decision makers.”
Mathilde Aggebo
Head of Institute

The exhibition project involves the work on the simulation of virtual models, which is Anette Kreutzberg’s area of research at KADK’s School of Architecture.

The exhibition runs until 27 September 2015 at the Danish Architecture Centre.
