CollectionCare
CollectionCare is an innovative project that aims to help small to medium-sized museums to monitor their collections.
A signal is sent from sensors close to the individual objects or in designated rooms, showing temperature, humidity, light conditions and the amount of air pollution around the individual objects. The system offers an overview of collections with different object types in different locations to minimize the need for active conservation interventions.
CollectionCare will
- Develop an innovative decision-making system for preventive conservation in small and medium-sized museums
- Integrate IoT (Internet of Things) monitoring of the microclimate for each object in any location, whether it is in exhibition, storage, handling or transport, integrated with degradation models for the different object types.
- Integrate the latest advances in electronics registration, LPWAN (Low Power Wide Area Network) wireless communications, multi-material degradation models, big data and cloud computing into a single affordable system tailored to the specific needs and resources of smaller museums and collections.
The Royal Danish Academy is contributing to the project with advanced computer-generated degradation models of canvas paintings and experimental measurements in our laboratories, for verification of the degradation models. This is based on our extensive know-how in preventive- and interventional conservation.
