The lecture by Christian Benimana, architect, senior principal and managing director at MASS Design Group in Kigali (RA), will focus on MASS Design Group as a value-driven practice that considers the built environment as a catalyst for social change, economic growth and justice, and how this informs their projects and processes. MASS Design Group have received several prestigious awards and mentionings including the 2022 AIA Architecture Firm Award and were in 202 named the Architecture Innovator of the Year by the Wall Street Journal for their origins in healthcare and commitment to architecture as a medium for healing.

After the lecture Christian Benimana will be in conversation with dean Jakob Brandtberg Knudsen, exploring the potentials of architecture to promote health and facilitate healing, among other perspectives. The conversation will also open up to questions from the audience.

The lecture will be recorded.

About the International Lecture Series
The lecture series forms part of the Academy’s engagement in the UIA2023CPH World Congress which will be hosted in Copenhagen in July 2023. The world congress has dedicated its programme to articulate the profound agency architecture has in shaping our societies; securing human and non-human wellbeing, shaping behavior and innovating practice to enable a sustainable, equitable and inclusive future for all.

The Royal Danish Academy is leading the Science Track of the World Congress, fostering new research and knowledge exchanges across the breadth of architectural research and practice with the aim to provoke new perspectives and concrete actions.
