Studio Spaces

Status

This anthropological project explores the impact of the studio space for the production of works in three aesthetical disciplines: art, architecture and design.

By conducting ethnographic fieldwork with a focus on qualitative interviews and photographs the intention is to investigate into the various spaces of production that condition these creative process and products. The hypothesis is that the product (series as well as solitary works of artwork, buildings and design) changes when the space of production changes (a condition that is not restricted to these kinds of products only). Furthermore this focus on space is connected to the interplay between controllable and uncontrollable sides of aesthetical work, arguing that the interconnection between the work process and its spatial surroundings might not be possible to control. Additionally it is taken into consideration that virtual spaces have a growing impact on the process. In this way the project investigates the relationship between space, materiality and process from an anthropological point of view. A pilot project has been undertaken.
