We examine the altered landscape of the Atacama Desert in Chile, specifically the crater left by the copper mining operations in Chuquicamata. The open-pit as they call it ﹣ is a permanent scar, an artifact of the anthropocene that cannot be reverted or normalized. In celebration rather than despondence, this project seeks to alter presuppositions and establish a new typology of memorial.
