Exhibition: MODERN VERNACULAR - Informal Settlements in the Global South

Modern Vernacular is an exhibition on contemporary informal housing in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

The exhibition focuses on the complex urban structures, the collage-like architectural attributes and the intimate home spaces emblematic of informal settlements in the Global South.

The exhibition highlights a major tendency in contemporary urban development and construction practice characterized by use of industrial construction materials adapted to the local contextual conditions without involvement of engineers, urban planners and architects.

The exhibition is made by Johan Mottelson, postdoctural researcher at The Royal Academy and Marco Prahm, architect.
